Three Learning: Delivering Outcome Based e-Learning

To deliver an impeccable service, Three Learning adopts a home-grown methodology called the Three Learning Development System (3LDS) that guides the development process to transform raw training materials into effective e-learning courseware. 3LDS integrates the relevant content, pedagogy and technology to meet the desired learning outcomes. “The materials we develop meet the intended learning objectives of the customer and ensures that the learner is able to retain and apply the content,” states Wee Shen Tan, CEO, Three Learning. The process, Tan states, is a stringent end-to-end approach, starting from analyzing the content sufficiency, accuracy and relevancy to meet the required learning objectives, conceptualising engaging learning ‘e-activities’, and applying the right technology to meet the customer’s needs and budget.
Where Three Learning’s first product is that of creating effective e-learning courses to meet customers’ learning requirements, its second product, the e-Learning Application Portal (eLAP), is the delivery platform that aims to provide measurement of each learner’s learning effectiveness. In addition, eLAP was developed according to a modular framework structure such that it can be easily customised to meet customer’s specific organisation needs.

For example, in one of Three Learning’s projects with a large scale Singapore sport event organiser, eLAP was used to incorporate manpower management into e-learning delivery to create a seamless process for volunteers registration, e-learning, selection and attendance taking. Thus, covering both learning and organization management on a single platform.
Aligning itself with the evolving shift away from traditional e-learning, Three Learning also offers a game-based learning solution that allows participants to learn by experiencing engaging case scenarios or situations. To deliver the intended learning process correctly, the games are designed based on the business learning requirements and environment by using gaming theories for the game portion and the 3LDS methodology for the learning effectiveness part. Three Learning has successfully used this concept to develop a 2.5D casual game that teaches HR knowledge and skills for one of their large clients in Singapore.
As a young and innovative company, Three Learning strives to enhance its offering by implementing the best elements from other industries. “The Marketing industry is very good at giving short and to the point messages; we’re using that in e-learning. Games are very good at attracting people and retaining attention; we’re using gaming concepts to retain a learner’s attention. We bring in these elements into our e-learning and will continue to integrate more elements from outside our own industry to enhance our offerings,” Tan mentions.
Tan views e-learning as a promising industry that will increasingly displace traditional learning practices in organizational as well as academic trainings. He reflects on the gradual success of the e-commerce industry and notes that companies are increasingly opening up to e-learning as well. He is confident that e-learning could be the future of learning as it holds many advantages over traditional learning practices in terms of cost, ability to reach more people, flexibility, and customizability of the platform. With its mission to provide effective and engaging e-Learning solutions, the company continues to enable organizations to implement e-learning strategies that can retain and leverage their intellectual capital. “Throughout our journey since 2005 the primary motivation has been the ability to enable learners to learn fast and to be able to retain much of the things that they are learning,” notes Tan.
