7 Trends That Have Dictated The Medical Science Industry in 2019

    Apac CIOOutlook | Wednesday, October 09, 2019
    Tweet

The trends which unraveled a realm of possibilities in the pharma, life sciences, and BioTech industry in 2019 are discussed in detail.

Fremont, CA: Many predictions by scientists, entrepreneurs, and medical care providers were considered to shape the future of the Biotech and Pharma industry. When compared to the predictions, the industry has fared better than expected. Some trends that have shaped the industry in the year until now are:

    1. Genome Editing:

Genome Editing involves replication, injection, or redesign of the DNA in a genome of an organism. The procedure has a wide array of applications starting from drug discovery to treating a specific ailment or a syndrome. The procedure is game-changing in biotech as it enhances the abilities of the human, making the body much receptive to senses. Genome editing is the most anticipated trend among startups as a breakthrough was identified with the technique recently.

    2. Alzheimer's:

The treatment of Alzheimer’s has been a tough feat since it affects the brain. From the starting of the year 2019, hope has been re-established as a specific drug that scientists used to treat stroke showcased capacities for treating Alzheimer’s as well. The drug, until now, has passed even human testing, ensuring that its consumption has no side effects on humans.

Many startups are at work to prevent and cure Alzheimer’s and dementia by a holistic and multi-dimensional approach. The scientists relentlessly strive to discover a drug to address the unmet medical needs of Alzheimer’s affected patients.

    3. Sale of Medicinal Drugs:

Sale of medicinal drugs have always been controversial; the main reason for this is the big pharma companies that takes profits from selling drugs that cure diseases. What the critics do not understand is the effort that goes into manufacturing the right drug. Every successful drug accompanies baggage from several hundred failed trials. This only means that it is not unnatural and unethical to try and recover the portions of the costs of failed experiments. The marketing and outreach of medicinal drugs will be looking at an upgrade.

    4. Politics and Medicine:

As drug prices and healthcare benefits are still not easily accessible for many people, any step taken towards the field will automatically be rewarded with a large following. Tapping into this feature is the political scenario of the region. The government and politicians have often worked with many private healthcare providers to extend primary healthcare amenities. This year the trend is to involve the digitalization of the process along with the formation of such partnerships.

     5. Food Engineering:

The practices like meat farming in factories produce severe repercussions to both nature and human’s health. By nipping these issues in the bud, the wheel of livestock manufacturing can be broken. The medical sector is utilizing the latest trends, like genome hacking to create healthy food. Cutting edge technologies are focused on this process to reduce the pollution of the environment inside out. Many startups are enthusiastic about the results as they work on growing meat from plant cells.

    6. Human Augmentation via Brain-Computer Interfacing:

New ventures and startups have already started working on concepts that encourage human and technology interconnection. The evolution of technologies from on-the-body to in-the-body and silent speech is has been revolutionary. Many startups have kick-started the brain-machine interfaces that will assist a cohesive working between the human brain and artificial intelligence.

    7. Digital Bio:

Digital biology is a phenomenon of the present with the dawn of 2019. Proper human interaction is finally obtained for technologies operating in digital fabrication. Companies that work with the mix of additive manufacturing, computational design, and synthetic biology and even materials engineering find it critical. The idea is to define the symbiosis between microorganisms, bodies, and even buildings. With 3D printing, customization of all aspects, from medicines to prosthetics, has also become the most popular trend.
