Lithan Pte Ltd.: Disrupting Class With Applied Learning Claas

The face of graduate work-readiness in Asia looks meek because of the lack of practical knowledge and skills in the young boys and girls across the continent. Reports suggest that 50 percent of graduates in Asia struggle to find jobs. The biggest contributor to this major problem is that universities neither have apt learning pedagogy that supports experiential learning nor access to industry professionals who can provide the required training to students.

Singapore-based digital skills academy Lithan Pte Ltd. is on a mission to help students in Asia get jobs before they graduate by empowering universities with advanced digital technologies and a work-study degree. Lithan has disrupted conventional education with its Competency Learning as a Service (CLaaS), a digital learning and mentoring platform that brings competency-based curriculum and work-based learning pedagogy to universities. Built on AI, CLaaS provides a personalized learning journey for improved knowledge and skills, which translate to enhanced workplace productivity and strong career growth for students.

“CLaaS shifts the role of a faculty from ‘sage on stage’ to ‘personal mentor’,” says Leslie Loh, founder and CEO of Lithan. The platform implements work-based applied learning pedagogy with a 70:20:10 learning model. That means, learners not only acquire knowledge and skills in the classroom, but they also learn how to apply them in today’s workplace across industries.

Lithan follows a personalized and measured learning delivery methodology for maximum learning efficiency. “Our learning programme is broken into bite-sized learning components which can be tagged, combined, or sequenced to form longer learning interactions, based on individual preferences,” says Loh.
Learning happens through live flipped classes, tutorials, and expert sharing. Students can opt for personalized mentoring and peer-to-peer learning, both online and on-campus and continue to progress via assessments.

Lithan couldn’t have happened to Asia education at a better time. The Digital revolution is transforming traditional businesses and jobs. COVID-19 has further accelerated the pace of digitalization, forcing the traditional education sector to change from the ground up. Virtualization is fueling borderless education even as the demand for a skilled and knowledgeable digital workforce—regardless of the location—reaches a fever pitch. Globalization and technology will enable more educated workers from emerging economies to engage in high-value work across borders while job competition in their own countries intensifies. In this scenario, Lithan aims to mitigate mismatches in supply and demand of digital skills and talents across Asia with the implementation of its CLaaS Academy—a pan-Asia digital learning and talent platform able to deliver talents and enterprises growth in the post-COVID-19 digital economy.

CLaaS Academy, with a comprehensive network of university alliances across Asia, connects higher education students, working professionals, enterprises, industry experts, technology vendors and universities for scalable talent incubation in the emerging Asian economies. The academy provides an applied work-study degree at the end of which students can kickstart their job careers with confidence. During the course, the learners acquire practical knowledge via intensive skills boot camp which they continue to apply in an applied learning environment. Lithan facilitates industry certifications as well.

Besides, the academy provides training and education for working professionals too. It delivers rapid digital skills acceleration for high demand future jobs in the areas of digital business and operations, data analytics, AI, software development, and systems administration.

“We are Edutrust certified and an accredited Centre for Continuous Education and Training (CET) by SkillsFuture Singapore (SSG),” says Loh. “We are also accredited training centers for Pearson BTEC and Scottish Qualifications Authority.” To date, Lithan has served more than 20,000 learners and 2,000 enterprises. On the personal front, Loh has headed a government-based group that is focused on developing digital transformation narratives for the adult education and training sector. With such value and passion, Lithan is resolute to prepare the best talent that the world is in need of.
